Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Vortec RDX Recently purchased the new Vortex RDX Dead Sled 50 package. What a pleasure to shoot, starting with the ease of cocking, use of the Proview 2 scope and repeatable accuracy with every shot. The balance is amazing and the compactness will be of benefit while sitting in a tree stand. The ACUdraw can be added at anytime if necessary. I would highly recommend this crossbow package for anyone looking to purchase a quality made, compact and simple to use hunting set up in this price range. Horton/TenPoint customer service is second to none!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Second RDX Backing up my 2016 Storm is a 2017 Vortec. As a 100% tree stand hunter (climber) I love the small form factor and narrow width. The trigger is notably smooth and short and at about a 3 lb break, it's for a hunting xbow. Like my Storm, these characteristics along with the excellent balance the RDX design affords make the new Vortec another big winner in my mind. My one recommendation is that another 20-30 fps arrow speed would make this bow a stand out in it's class.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crossbow option for a traditional archer I'm an older traditional archer, missing my left hand and a prosthetic user, who broke his right shoulder. I had booked a wild hog hunt and was unable to hunt with my 60# recurve. I purchased the Vortex RDX to enable me to participate. It is very well engineered and constructed. It sighted in easily and shoots very accurately. The Acu-draw enable me to draw and cock the bow even with my broken but healing shoulder. Thanks Horton/Ten Point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vortec RDX - Refined, compact, balanced I am fortunate to be able to handle and shoot many crossbows every year. I recently acquired the Horton Vortec and just finished up sighting it in for our upcoming spring turkey season. The Vortec is almost completely assembled when you open the box, so it takes no time to get the factory package all set up and ready to shoot. I chose to go with the Dedd Sled 50. As soon as you bring the Vortec to the shoulder, it is immediately apparent that this is one light reverse draw bow. Horton did their homework and was able to shed some weight, while maintaining a great balanced, compact, and fast crossbow. Cocking was a breeze with the Dedd Sled 50. I suspect most people would be able to cock this bow quite easily. The first shot hit just 1.5 inches high and 1.5 inches left at 20 yards and the next two arrows ended up right next to the first. That was right out of the box. I found the scope to be perfectly calibrated to the factory arrows as well. From the assembly, to sighting in, Horton does most of the work for you before you even buy the crossbow. The Vortec is fast, compact, light, and deadly accurate. Not only does its performance exceed expectations, it is one great looking crossbow. I wholeheartedly recommend the Horton Vortec to anyone looking for their first crossbow, or their tenth crossbow. Horton got it right with the Vortec RDX.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice all around crossbow With a 135 lb draw wt. this crossbow is not hard to pull with the Dedd Sled 50, with the reverse limbs it's balanced very well and easier to hold than a shotgun. With a length of 34.25" and a axle-to-axle cocked position of 9.125" its easy to maneuver wether your setting on the ground, in a blind or up in a tree stand. Its also quiet, at 340 fps they won't have time to react. The bow came mostly assembled had to install quiver, string stop and scope. Installed scope adjusted the eye relief and it was shooting 6" groups without any adjustments. Nice price point

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love the Storm RDX The Storm RDX is the best crossbow I've ever put my hands on. I previously owned a Parker, and it was a good crossbow, but there is no comparison to the balance of the Storm RDX. I read many reviews before I purchased the Storm and was convinced it was the one I wanted. But not until I got to the bow shop and actually held it in my hands, I knew I had to have it. Buy one, you won't regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from War Machine Good balance, great size for treestand and ground blind. Absolutely terrifying piece of technology. Hardest hitting crossbow i've ever shot. Had to buy a new target after a few days of target practice. Hands down the best crossbow i've ever had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for small tight spaces I have owned two Horton crossbows, the first a hunter supreme. I upgraded a few years ago to the Vision and was blown away by its performance.

How long can you leave the bow in the cocked position before the string or limbs are affected?

Asked by: Kent
You can leave the bow cocked all day while you are hunting, but we do not suggest you leave it cocked longer than that or over night.

I just purchased my wife the Horton Vortec RDX pro-view package. What cranking device do I need for this bow? Cabelas informed me that the TenPoint ACUdraw Cocking Device would not work on this bow.

Asked by: Greg72
The Acudraw will fit on that bow just fine. You need the HCA-000-B-AD.

Since only a soft case is available from Horton, what protective hard case would you recommend for the Vortec?

Asked by: RAKHNTR60
The only hard case out there for a reverse draw is a Plano Manta case.

I shoot Tenpoint Pro elite arrows out of my tenpoint titan extreme w/ 100 grain heads.. Would I be able to use these arrows with the vortec.

Asked by: nh_xbow_hunter
Yes, the Pro Elites will work well out of the Vortec as long as they have the Omni nocks on them.
Answered by: Horton Rep
Date published: 2017-07-19

The site says that the vortec comes with a 400 grain arrow. I weighed the three arrows that came with mine and the tips weigh 100 grains even, but the arrows are weighing in at 293 gns. This is making them out to be 394 grains total. Should they have been

Asked by: sirbum69
That is very close. There is also some slight variation in arrow weight. Those 6 grains will not effect the bow or the arrow.

Is the acudraw 50 available on either RDX bow--the Storm or the Vortec? If not will that cocking device be added those bows in the foreseeable future?

Asked by: Shorts
You can't use separate hooks on a reverse draw bow, so no, the Acudraw50s are not available on those bows. I don't believe there is a built in rope cocker option being looked at, at this time.
